Raag Megh on a rainy day featuring Pt. Parameshwar Hegde
Sangeethaamsha hosted its first baithak of 2025 in Belmont, and we witnessed a je ne sais quoi in the truest sense.
Baithaks are a unique tradition of Hindustani music. The proximity to the performance (and the performer) only makes the experience brighter and more memorable. Nothing to hide behind, no auto-tune, no effects. Just the performer and the audience; the OG boiler-room of music.
Here’s some footage from a recent baithak featuring Pt Parameshwar Hegdeji who held the audience’s breath for 2 hours with his spirited performance of Megh, Gaud Malhar and Bhairavi to name a few Raags.
For premium subscribers, I’ll try and post the full audio from the concert in the forthcoming weeks.
Bonus Content
Full audio for Naatak’s Fall musical from 2024, Vrindaavan, is out now. Please check out the recording here.
In terms of new albums to check out, please hear out Joel Veena’s new album Cardinal. I’m always fascinated by folks playing Indian classical on non-traditional instruments, and Joel’s guitar seems tailor made for the genre. Check out this amazing Bageshree from the album featuring Tabla from Mir Naqibul Islam.
Check out Gaayatri Kaundinya’s new single and albums. I absolutely love her Darbari Kanhada with a Sarangi saath - Mere mana leeno
There’s lots more music to come your way in 2025. Thank you for indulging me so far. I’m exploring new formats this year for the publication. I hope with your support we will grow this community meaningfully and help the larger community of classical music practitioners and performers.
